What is a stroke?

A stroke is a medical emergency. It occurs when blood flow to the brain is disrupted, usually by a blockage or ruptured blood vessel.

When blood flow stops, brain cells begin to die within minutes and permanent damage can occur within 4-6 hours. Globally over 15 million people suffer a stroke.

A stroke can cause paralysis, weakness or loss of sensation on one side of the body. A stroke can also cause problems with speech, language and thinking skills.

Strokes are different for everyone. Some people recover quickly and completely; others may experience lasting problems with their eyesight, speech, or movement abilities. Strokes can also affect your memory and thinking abilities temporarily or permanently.

Stroke is treatable if it’s caught early.

TMS as a treatment option for stroke treatment.

TMS research indicates that it can be used as a treatment therapy for stroke rehabilitation.

What is TMS diagram

A device that contains a magnetic coil is placed against the scalp. This device passes alternating current to specific areas of the brain known to control mood control, stimulating nerve cells, in order to improve the symptoms of PTSD.

Targeted regions of the brain for stroke therapy.

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive procedure that uses a magnetic field to stimulate specific areas of the brain. It has been studied as a potential treatment for a variety of conditions, including stroke.

TMS has shown to be effective in improving symptoms of stroke, such as weakness or paralysis on one side of the body, and may be useful in helping to improve language and cognitive function in individuals who have had a stroke.

What are some of the causes of a stroke?

Stroke can be caused by a number of factors, including:

  • high blood pressure (hypertension)
  • atrial fibrillation
  • diabetes
  • heart disease
  • a previous stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA)
